The following is an excerpt from a Sunday morning message delivered August 18, 1996, at Sequoyah Community Church, Oakland, CA, by Dr. Eugene Ness, missionary to Asia Pacific. Sent by Jim Bramlett on 10-31-2002.

From Dr. Ness:

I was preaching at a crusade in Nandes, Fiji, on a Wednesday night when an angel walked into the service. You ask, "What did the angel look like?"  He looked like a Fijian.  You ask, "How could you tell he was an angel?" We could tell by his authority. Nobody knew him, nobody recognized this person, and yet he walked into the service with great authority, and there was that presence of the Holy Spirit that quickened. The pastor of the church turned to me and said, "Whew! That's an angel!" I replied, "Yes, I know."

The whole audience just stood there. The angel walked to the platform. It was just about the time a musical group was about to sing. There was no one behind the pulpit. They (the singers) were getting ready to sing with their instruments. The angel just quickly walked up and said: "GET
READY!! YOUR SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST, IS COMING VERY, VERY SOON!" Now he spoke in Fijian so I only got the interpretation from the pastor. Then the angel walked out of the building and was gone.

That service lasted till 6:00 a.m. in the morning. People could not leave; they were arrested by the Holy Spirit. If they walked out of the service and down the street, they were brought right back by the Holy Spirit's magnetic force. You know the Holy Spirit can arrest you, don't you? Amen! Has the Holy Spirit arrested you lately? Well, the people began to confess their sins, and repent of secret sins. All kinds of things took place as the pastor was sitting on the front bench. Dozens and dozens were receiving the Holy Spirit.

There were only 1,500 people there that night. They were all still there at 3:00 a.m. At 6:00 a.m. the service was finally dismissed. The whole music team resigned. They said, "We are not worthy to worship the Lord any more. We have been convicted." And for the next two nights they wouldn't participate. We were lacking our singers and musicians because they felt the work of the Holy Spirit so seriously that they felt "We have to prove ourselves before we can sing again!" I was amazed at how the Holy Spirit works. Isn't that great? But that's revival!

I wish you could have been there in Papua, New Guinea, when that deacon was assigned to have a funeral of one of the fellows who had just died in the church. The Pastor was gone to Port Moresby on business.

A man died early in the morning - [who was] one of the prominent members of that little village church. You know, Papua, New Guinea is a primitive place. They don't have an education; they don't know all the things that are going on in the world; they are very simple. They (the deacons) had a meeting and drew straws because none of the deacons wanted to take the service - they were too scared! The one who drew the short straw, who had to conduct the service, was nervous - he didn't know what to do. He looked all over his Bible and couldn't find a sermon anywhere. . .''must be one in here somewhere."

3:00 p.m. came. They had built a box. The body was laying in the box. The people had come. They were so wishing the pastor could have come back. But there were no telephones. The little fellow decided to read the 23rd Psalm in his New Guinea language. He got to about verse 3 when the Holy Spirit spoke to him and said: 'RAISE THAT MAN FROM THE DEAD! PASTOR IS NOT HERE.' That simple little Papua, New Guinean deacon heard the voice of God say, 'GIVE YE THEM TO EAT' (referring to how Jesus through a miracle fed 5,000 people - inferring that God would do a miracle once again through an act of obedience to giving out His word).

He looked down at the dead man and said, "In the name of Jesus, arise from the dead!" The dead man sat up and the audience went "Oooooooooh!" Nobody knows what to do. The man (now alive) is talking about heaven. He's talking about how great things are in heaven. He's talking about the glories of God, about everything beautiful. All of a sudden the people were so excited they jumped to their feet and ran out of the place. They weren't scared - they wanted to tell somebody! I'll tell you - that stopped the funeral! How can you have a funeral when a man's come alive?

That week five new Assembly of God churches became realities in that neighborhood. We didn't have pastors to fill them. We had to find the best persons we could to take over until we could find some Bible students to take over the service. "Give ye them to eat" miraculously and you'll have more left over than when you started. The more you teach God's word and give it out, the more of the word you'll have left over in your life.
