Eating the Elephant One Bite at a Time

by Harrietta Turner

I found this helpful phrase today on the Net referring to preparing for Y2K and other End time scenario possibilities. It described what the Lord has been showing me also. After finding the perfect rural property, purchasing and remodeling it, installing wood stoves and fuel sources for our moderately cold climate, I came to a point where the predicted disasters were looming upon the near horizon and I found myself somewhat paralyzed as far as further preparations when I was nowhere near ready for what is coming.

That is when I went to the Lord and admitted that I was overwhelmed with the magnitude of what I knew I should do and that I didn't have the strength or wisdom to carry on. I should have realized that sooner and gone to Him. Because immediately He began to send information about just the right products my way through other Christians, mainly on the Internet. An E-mail friend had already sent me a CD-ROM with all aspects of survival covered and with good suggestions including that I have more than one pair of reading glasses. God has promised that even before we call that He will answer. And after my prayer a local friend heard me mention I needed another pair of glasses... she insisted I make an appointment with her eye doctor and she insisted on driving me there.

Another friend who just learned of Y2K started sending me WWW Sites with survival supplies for sale which she checked out for the lowest price for the identical product offered on other Sites and she would tell me exactly what she ordered and how to do that. Then I would go there and order. Another Net friend added me to his E-mail List and almost weekly sent out descriptions of survival supplies he purchased, where to buy them, how to use them, how to maintain them and often sent photos also over E-mail to help identify the exact product. He would send these on weekends just when I happened to be visiting a prison near the store he recommended. I would stop in and buy the product. Each week I would wait for him to send his suggestions. These are just a few examples showing how God answered my helpless prayer. Isn't He amazing? It shows how He is willing to carry us when we can't carry on.

In Isaiah 63:9b it says that "in His love and in His pity He redeemed them; and He bare them and carried them all the days of old." What He did for the children of Israel then He is able and willing to do for us now .. We do all that we can while we can and then go to Him. He then shows Himself strong in our behalf. This is something we need to know and practice to help us for the future when we will face situations that we can not handle without His help. Maybe this is the most important preparation for the future ... looking daily to Him to lead and provide what we need ... one bite at a time. + HHT
